Tips To Positive Body Image

3 min read

When we look in the mirror, most of us focus more on what we don’t like about our shape. We see our bodies as something to be looked at rather than used and appreciated. You can feel good about your body and lead a happy and fulfilling life, whatever your body type and age.

You can learn to embrace your body just as you are.

Here are some essential tips to remember:

1. Stop avoiding your body.

We know that one way to maintain negative body image is to avoid your body. So, in order to break this cycle, stop the avoidance! Face up to your body and get to know it, lumps, bumps and all. Get used to being with your body. Look at yourself as a whole person - don't just focus on the bits you don't like.

2. Stop checking.

Some people check rather than avoid, which also perpetuates negative body image. Checking is when people frequently check their bodies for evidence of continuing "disgustingness".

3. Stop comparing.

One form of "checking" behavior is comparison. It can be challenging to stop negatively comparing yourself to others: for many people, it's such a habit it is automatic and happens hundreds of times a day. There's someone out there who's felt the way you feel, and there's likely even someone who's looked at you with envy. So instead of getting caught up in their business, take a seat in your own life.

4. Practice self-acceptance.

Having a negative body image is like having a critic in your head. The critic is a harsh, derogatory narrative that makes nasty comments about you. The big key to changing negative body image is to kill the critic, and learn self-acceptance. This means accepting yourself as you are. It can take time, but it's worth it!

5. Smile!

Smiling helps release chemicals in the body which increase cell reproduction and will also mean you have more energy to strut your lovely stuff in the day. Plus, smiling, for sure, will make you look better! Not to mention how it can help you avoid wrinkles in the long run.

We know that one list cannot automatically tell you how to turn negative body thoughts into positive body image, but it can bring you in to healthier ways of looking at yourself and your body.  The more you practice these new thought patterns, the better you will feel about who you are and the body you naturally have. You are more powerful than you think you are.

Milk And Tea: Are They Healthier Together Or Not?

2 min read

Drinking tea could help you lose weight, new research has found - how about if you add some milk to it?

There are lots of potential health benefits of tea. Take, for instance, weight maintenance.  Tea has many active ingredients that affect our health. It is particularly rich in antioxidants and vitamins. It is found to improve our immune system, to control blood sugar levels, reduce damage to cells and prevent cardiovascular diseases.

With that being said, tea itself is amazing, so how does milk affect it?

According to The Guardian, milk appears to modify the biological activities of tea ingredients, it is likely that the anti-tumour effects of tea could be affected, but on NPR it was stated that the amount of milk is not going to greatly interfere with the way it is absorbed. Instead, it was clarified that milk proteins may slow down the process, but there's no evidence that milk may cause irreversible binding. Milk does not stop the bioactive compounds of tea from being absorbed.

To conclude: Adding milk to tea may reduce some of its healthful propertie

You may choose to drink tea with a little bit of milk to make it taste better, but the way you prepare your tea and milk may affect the tea's benefits.

You can drink tea on a regular daily basis. Just remember not drink too much tea a day, everything should in moderation. If you're concerned about health risks, there has been no reports of any dangers to moderate drinking of milk tea.

Calm Yourself Down

3 min read

It’s difficult to stay calm and centered when you’re in the midst a complicated mess. Some moments, we get extremely angry, and we tend to do things that we regret afterwards. The ability to stay calm in difficult situations can mean the difference between success and failure, more so, fixed and broken relationships.

Developing the ability to stay calm under pressure situations means that you are less likely to suffer from the effects of stress, anxiety and worry.

So how do mentally healthy people stay cool under pressure? Here are some tips to remember whenever you're feeling stressed, out-of-control, or just under too much pressure.

1. Use simple, normal language.

When you are filled to the rim with anger, then your words probably start getting more and more bitter. The harsh words which you would have never used all through your life would start to run over from your mouth at that moment. Take a second to stop, and think. Saying ‘I am really upset because you were late last night’ can save your life from saying "@#$%" instead.

2. Just turn away.

If you probably think that the situation would get out of your control and you wouldn’t be able to stop yourself, just walk away from it. This is better that speaking all those nonsense which you would later have to regret about. Less talk, less mistake.

3. Breathe deeply.

Breathing deeply would absolutely slow down both your heart and the situation. Inhale deeply, fill your lungs with air hold it there for a few seconds and then exhale slowly. This is the best meditation technique that will help to calm you.

4. Get some sleep.

When you turn away, just opt for sleep. An angry or tired mind is one that is not able to think clearly and it is hard to stay calm when you are living in a mental fog. We can only learn and settle in when we are rested.

5. Remain positive.

Having a negative attitude about the challenges you face is a great way to increase into feeling overwhelmed. If you're pressured because of work, be confident in your ability to slay whatever dragon lies ahead.

These are simple tips that can save your life. In order to make the right decision you will need to stay calm, centered and focused on the right things and in the right way. When under pressure, take time to immediately remove yourself from the situation temporarily. It’s during moments like these that you need time and space to think.

Water: Makes You Fat Or Helps You Lose Weight?

2 min read

Can water make you fat?
It sounds absurd, since it's said to be one of the secrets to weight loss.  Some people claim that their water consumptions makes them gain weight. Let's take a look at that.

At a basic level, whatever you put down your throat increases the weight of your body right away.

Straight and simple, water can't make you fat, but if that's all you're putting into your body, you're slowing your metabolism down to the point where you're not burning any fat.

However, according to NetDoctor, there has been a study about tap water and weight gain.  Around 10% of UK tap water is fluoridated, and even though it's good for your teeth – it's not so good for your waistline.  Fluoride can cause individuals to gain weight because it makes it difficult for the body to absorb iodine. Therefore, our metabolism is slowed down.

But still, water retention is different. During times of dehydration your body instantly stores water near and around your vital organs. This is a safety mechanism to make sure proper organ function in times of drought. Water weight just means your stomach expands, but don't fret, because it will recline again shortly.

Adding more water to your diet will help you lose weight a few ways. First of all, it's a hunger suppressant, you will not be as hungry when drinking water all the way through the day as your stomach will continually have something flowing through it. Second, when your body realizes it is getting enough water, it will allow you to let go retained waters from your cells during digestion.

Believe the experts, water is the single most important aspect of nutrition.  Drinking more water each day can help you slim down. Water makes you feel full, without adding any calories to your diet. Water also cleanses your system.

If you stop drinking enough water your body will be thrown out of balance. You may experience weight gain, fluid retention and loss of thirst. To keep a healthy weight, eat healthy foods, exercise, and keep drinking water.

Why Aren't My Lips Moisturized?

2 min read

The feeling of dry skin is bad, but the feeling of dry, chapped lips is even worse. You just want to rock that red lipstick, but the cracking is ruining it.  In comparison to other parts of the face, the lips have it rough, literally. Common symptoms of chapped lips include lip:

  • dryness,
  • flaking,
  • scales,
  • sores,
  • swelling,
  • cracks,
  • or bleeding.

Lips don’t contain oil glands like other parts of the skin. For this reason, the lips are more susceptible to drying out and becoming chapped. There are a couple of reasons why your lips are peeling off.

1. You lick your lips.

We think that when we wet our lips, it becomes moist. But notice that soon after licking them, they feel dry again. This turns into a continuing cycle of lip-dehydration, since saliva evaporates, more moisture from the lips escapes, making them even drier than before.

2. You're dehydrated.

Dry lips is one of the signs of more widespread body dehydration. If you don’t drink enough during the day, your lips may become dry. Dry, cracked lips have also been associated with a deficiency of certain B vitamins.

3. You don't protect them.

Our lips, just like our skin, can be damaged by the sun. Look for a lip balm that has sun block in it for extra protection. Also, you can keep your lips moisturized all the way through the day with petroleum jelly or beeswax will help to keep them from drying out, too.

4. You use the wrong toothpaste.

Many types of toothpaste contain the ingredient called sodium lauryl sulfate, and reports in popular media point out this ingredient to be irritating enough to cause dryness and chapping of the lips.

In most cases, cracked lips are not caused by a serious condition and do not pose any health risks. If your dry lips have been long-term, there are lots of natural remedies that can be used to treat it, but if chapping is severe and doesn't respond to treatment at home, consult your doctor. Rarely, persistent chapped lips may indicate an underlying problem.

Warm White Rose Flowers String Lights (From Amazon)

2 min read

Ah, there's nothing better than going home to your room with a pretty, relaxing ambiance.

I think I was just able to do the best purchase I've ever done online! I got cute, decorative lights from Amazon!

Warm White Rose Flowers String Lights (Seller:  EchoSari)

You see, these are two of my favorite things: ROSES and LIGHTS.

It has 20 bulbs and it's battery-powered. For the price, quite a deal. I'm not complaining. Quality seems to be good. I was surprised how it's actually made of soft fabric when it looks a lot like plastic on the photos.

Its length is just long enough to reach over my bed and a little bit on my side table, which is how I want it to be. I love fancy lights because they add up to the ambiance, since my room is where I meditate. It's pretty handy, too. Since it doesn't have to plugged, I can bring it anywhere. Well, it's not like I'm gonna bring it anywhere since it's sort of fragile... Y'know, if I ever I throw a party or such. My point is, they're easy to set up because you can put them just about anywhere, and they'd still look lovely.

They are beautiful! They add a nice touch and so much personality to my room, but unfortunately, I was expecting something like what it says at the decription. It says there that its light is "warm white" but it's most definitely yellow! Upon reading the reviews, I knew I wasn't the only one. But nevertheless, I still love it when I close the lights and leave these little pretty roses to glow.

If you fancy decorative items and pretty things, these are great to decorate your room or outdoor walkways, for parties, weddings or even festivals. :)

Why Should Children Exercise?

2 min read

When we think of exercise, we think of going to the gym, running or lifting weights. To adults, exercise means shedding off some pounds or getting a toned body. But for kids, exercise means playing and being physically active.

Like adults, kids need exercise.

Running and playing around are considered exercise for children, and it they have great health benefits. Kids exercise during gym class at school, during recess, at dance class or soccer practice, while riding bikes, or when playing tag.

According to WHO, children and teenagers aged 5–17 should accumulate at least 60 minutes of moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity daily, and amounts of physical activity greater than 60 minutes provide additional health benefits.

Kids develop endurance when they regularly go out and engage in physical activity. The heart beats faster and the child breathes harder. When done regularly and for extended periods of time, physical activity will strengthen the heart and enhance the body's ability to deliver oxygen to all its cells.

Studies have proven that kids who are physically fit sleep better and are better able to handle physical and emotional challenges as they grow up.

Active children have the ability to concentrate much better, even at the end of a long school day. They also have lessened risks of anxiety and depression, plus, it improves mood and attitude in children.

With those being said, parents should limit TV, video game and computer time. It's a bit sad to see that kids don't play outside anymore, when they should be making the most of their childhood spending time outdoors. Exercise with your child to improve your own health while modeling for your child to develop good exercise habits. The benefits of exercising while young can comprise a lifetime commitment to fitness.

If you are a parent, enourage and let your children choose sports or activities they enjoy and will stick to as they grow.

What Does Your Skin Say About Your Health?

3 min read

If your eyes are the windows to your soul, your skin is the windowto your health.

The food we eat and the habits we do can reflect vastly on our skin. Your skin can reveal a lot about your lifestyle, according to health and beauty experts.  It doesn’t surprise me that when there's something wrong with you on the inside, your skin sometimes sends the first warning signs.

Let’s take a look at what our skin says about our health, with some of these conditions:

Dry, Itchy Skin

The causes of dry skin could be cold air, hot showers, and uses moisturizers that aren’t suitable for your skin. If your dry skin turns into an intense, annoying itch that leaves red marks, your doctor may want to rule out some serious conditions like eczema, thyroid problems, renal disease or a kind of cancer but only in rare cases, depending on the severity of the symptoms.

Acne could mean that you are stressed. In some cases, hormones like testosterone vary throughout your cycle and make your glands produce more oil, which can eventually clog your pores and result in acne or pimples. There’s nothing to worry about that because it’s normal, but acne can also have several complications, including pustules and cysts, both of which can appear on the skin's surface. Acne can also cause scars.

Blue Leg Veins

This could mean that some of your veins are no longer working correctly. Blue-to-purple lines could lead to varicose veins or spider veins, a weblike network of smaller blue or red veins closer to the skin's surface. Varicose veins are larger, darker, and sometimes raised and embossed on the skin. In most cases, this happens on people that are over age 50, typically in women.

Puffy Eyelids

Puffy eyes show that you probably didn’t get a good night’s sleep. But what if you slept well yet you still have puffy eyelids? It could be because you slept on your stomach. That can also cause fluid accumulation around the eyelids. If it’s puffy and red, you may have an allergy or you’re suffering from an allergic reaction.

Dry Lips

Dry lips are usually caused by saliva, dehydration, cold wind or vitamin-B deficiency, but your lips can say a lot about your health. If it’s severely cracked, dry lips may be a reaction to medication, a symptom of allergy, infection, or other conditions.

These normal conditions of your skin can say a lot about your health, just like how good health often is reflected in an attractive, youthful appearance. These flaws can signal underlying health issues so it’s important to be aware. If you’re in doubt, don’t hesitate to consult your doctor or dermatologist.

Sneaky Exercises (Without Even Trying!)

3 min read

Exercise is a bonus.  Exercise helps your heart get stronger, can help build muscle, typically gets you outside the house and absorbing vitamin D, and brings you a load of other health benefits. With our busy schedule and tiring activities, fitting in some time to exercise can be a bit dragging and tough.

The truth is, it doesn’t have to be that hard. You can actually exercise without even trying!  Make a few changes to your life together with these tips and you’ll be in better shape and mood in weeks!

Here are some sneak ways to exercise in your day to day life:

Clean your place every weekend.

Yep, that’s right – bet you didn’t know a house can be dreadfully packed with dust in just 2 weeks. Cleaning can be tons of fun, too, especially seeing the results afterwards. Cleaning doesn’t just leave you feeling satisfied, it will also serve as your exercise! That’s killing two birds with one stone. To make the most it as an exercise, I’m walking about moving the furniture, scrubbing the walls and all that. It’ll keep your heart beating and your house sparkling!

Maintain a good posture.

It may not sound exercise-y to you, but poor posture is one of the worst things you can do for your body. Making a conscious and mindful effort to straighten your back when you sit down will wonders for your health and energy levels. It can make you look more confident, thus, you feel great!

Always take the stairs.

Marching up the stairs can also keep your heart pumping! There’s evidence that even minimal amounts of resistance exercise can boost your body’s levels of a substance, which encourages calories from food to be stored in muscle cells rather than as body fat.

Walk a bit more.

If the bus drops you off not so far from your house, make an effort to walk from there. A brisk walk is one of the best natural energizers around and it can boost blood circulation. Don’t always take cabs and all, get the chance to take a walk! Learn more about walking here.

Exercise doesn’t have to be the same routine from day to day. We’re all busy here – and we’re lucky if we have time to hit the gym or go for a run! With some creativity and effort, you can slip in some activity for yourself along the way.

Five Things That Happen When You Skip A Meal

3 min read

Even though we know it's bad for us, we still tend to skip meals sometimes. It may be because of our super hectic schedule, an effort to drop a few pounds or just simply because we don't have the appetite. Whatever the reason may be, it’s not good for the body.

We must be aware of some things that happen to our body when you skip a meal.

Fact: They’re not very pretty.

Here’s what happens when you skip a meal.

1.      You get digestive problems.

What part of the body would widely affect skipping a meal instead of your tummy? None. It’s your stomach that may be hurting the most, even if you rarely skip meals. Our body is made to work through the digestion process. How you eat reflects your digestion.

2.      You get more places to store fat.

When you skip meals, you tend to become hungrier early that day. It’s called overeating. If you your meals because of diet, you’re not making any progress by strictly restricting yourself. When you skip meals, your body gets confused. You’re only messing with your metabolism. When this happens, it will begin to store fat in order to preserve fuel.

3.      Your hormones change.

When you skip a meal, you look and feel more stressed. You’re obviously depriving yourself from nutrients, so you’re promoting yourself some dull-and-dry skin, flat-and-boring hair. You’ll also be lacking protein, which is pretty much the building block of your prettiest parts.

4.      You feel extra tired.

The key here is sugar. Without sugar, we won’t have any energy. If it is not circulating in the right amounts, every organ within the body can be impacted. Skipping just one meal will result in a drop in your body's blood sugar levels. Worse, if you skip breakfast, you’re depriving yourself from a jumpstart for your day. Without a steady supply of nutrients, your intellectual and emotional functioning can also change, resulting in irritability, mood swings and brain fog.

5.      You tend to overeat.

If you have skipped most of your meals during the day and finally sit down to have dinner, you are in very, very, very high risk of overeating. Your body is starved, whether you like it or not, it’s going to make up for the meal you missed. You will only end up feeling guilty and sick.

In order to give yourself the best chance to put a stop to skipping meals, you must put into mind that you should take care of your body. Skipping meals will not make you lose weight. It if it does, you will eventually be losing more muscle than fat, which will make you look soggier and cause can dangerous belly fat.

It’s ideal to eat five meals a day – breakfast, a healthy snack, lunch, a healthy snack, and a light dinner.

You must eat regularly throughout the day to keep your metabolism running and your body feeling satisfied – you’ll lose more weight in that way.
