It’s difficult to stay calm and centered when you’re in the midst a complicated mess. Some moments, we get extremely angry, and we tend to do things that we regret afterwards. The ability to stay calm in difficult situations can mean the difference between success and failure, more so, fixed and broken relationships.
Developing the ability to stay calm under pressure situations means that you are less likely to suffer from the effects of stress, anxiety and worry.
So how do mentally healthy people stay cool under pressure? Here are some tips to remember whenever you're feeling stressed, out-of-control, or just under too much pressure.
1. Use simple, normal language.
When you are filled to the rim with anger, then your words probably start getting more and more bitter. The harsh words which you would have never used all through your life would start to run over from your mouth at that moment. Take a second to stop, and think. Saying ‘I am really upset because you were late last night’ can save your life from saying "@#$%" instead.
2. Just turn away.
If you probably think that the situation would get out of your control and you wouldn’t be able to stop yourself, just walk away from it. This is better that speaking all those nonsense which you would later have to regret about. Less talk, less mistake.
3. Breathe deeply.
Breathing deeply would absolutely slow down both your heart and the situation. Inhale deeply, fill your lungs with air hold it there for a few seconds and then exhale slowly. This is the best meditation technique that will help to calm you.
4. Get some sleep.
When you turn away, just opt for sleep. An angry or tired mind is one that is not able to think clearly and it is hard to stay calm when you are living in a mental fog. We can only learn and settle in when we are rested.
5. Remain positive.
Having a negative attitude about the challenges you face is a great way to increase into feeling overwhelmed. If you're pressured because of work, be confident in your ability to slay whatever dragon lies ahead.
These are simple tips that can save your life. In order to make the right decision you will need to stay calm, centered and focused on the right things and in the right way. When under pressure, take time to immediately remove yourself from the situation temporarily. It’s during moments like these that you need time and space to think.
